Welcome to the past! Being a Sierra Vista history student, you will embark on a journey into the world of events, which have help to shape our world today. The 7th grade students at Sierra Vista will concentrate on world history. And the 8th grade student’s course of study will take them through the history of the United States.
7th Grade Students – World History and Geography
During the 7th grade your students will take a tour of the world. We will begin the year with a Map Skills/ Geography unit that will teach our students the different aspects of map reading. We will use our new found map skills to study the history and geography of great civilizations that were developing concurrently throughout the world during medieval and early modern times. We will start in the Roman Empire, explore the Medieval Middle East, Africa, Japan and China, as well as discover the world of Kings and knights in the European Middle Ages. Of course we won’t forget the Americas. Our students will take a close look at the civilization constructed by the Maya, Aztec, and Inca. Once we cover the medieval societies throughout the world we’ll focus on the transition to the modern world. We’ll begin with the European Renaissance where we’ll study Italian city-states, the Protestant Reformation, the Scientific Revolution and Exploration. We’ll end our year with the Enlightenment. It should be a year full of learning excitement.
8th Grade Students- United States History
Eighth grade students will begin with early exploration and discovery of the North American continent. They will focus on people and events, which led to the democratic principles used today by our government. As we journey through the many stages of development, the history teachers will each have a variety of techniques to help each student gain an understanding and an appreciation for American history. These lessons will be in the form of individual and team projects, position papers, field trips, and various writing assignments.
Each teacher has an individual grading systems, which is based on the following criteria: test, homework assignments, class participation, and class assignments. Homework is usually assigned daily. Unit test are given each week.
